About Poor Scribbler

My real name is Michael J. Hylton, and I teach high school Communication Arts, including Creative Writing, Writing in the Contemporary World, and Science-Fiction and Fantasy Literature.  I have been a teacher for three years now.

I attended Missouri State University where I received my Bachelor’s of Science in English Education.  I went on to the University of Missouri – Columbia where I earned my Master of Education degree in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Development. I hold two state certifications.

I was born in Spearfish, SD, and when I was very young I lived in several places, including Gillette,WY, Columbus, OH, Memphis and Knoxville, TN, and Ozark, AL.  For a while, my family settled in Ozark, and then we moved to Birmingham, AL when I was in high school.  I then moved to Springfield, MO where I attended Evangel University for one year before transferring to MSU.  It is also there that I met my wife.

Beyond my professional life, I enjoy writing and reading, mostly fiction and poetry. I also take a deep personal interest in music, outdoors, technology, cooking (and eating…), coffee, tea, and beer. I have been known to read a comic or play a video game from time to time as well.

Currently, I live in St. Louis, MO with my wife, my daughter, and my son.  We also have two dogs, just to keep things interesting.
